This week's pick for Album of the Week is by a band called Desolation Wilderness, titled New Universe. It came out on K Records this past August, and doesn't seem to fit much of the "sound" of K but matches K's best releases when it comes to quality. This is the second effort by Desolation Wilderness, and it shows a band that's constantly growing and honing their skills as a force to be reckoned with in the indie music community. New Universe sounds as if it were an infectious pop record that was slowed down and soaked in reverb and given the "wall of sound" treatment. Its dense dreamy qualities give it just the right amount of psychedelia without betraying its beautiful pop sensibilities. This record has lingered in my top ten for the year, and I anticipate the fast approaching cold weather to further bring out the warmth of this gem. Come give give it a listen...or better yet, pick it up this week for 10% off!
